changing routes

We didn’t know that last week was Lucy’s last week in public school.

But after years of trying to make it work, trying to help her through the long days, and trying to get better resources, we’re done.

I’m really proud of her mom and dad for working together to make this decision to help her mental, emotional, and social well-being.

And I’m proud of Lucy for being willing to step into the unknown for the hope of something better.

We went climbing this weekend, and she amazed me with how hard she pushed herself to get up the wall over and over again. She was doing adult routes, holding on with one hand sometimes as she pulled her whole body up and tried again and again when she failed. But she succeeded a lot more than she failed.

So as we go on an unfamiliar path to find an academic setting where she will thrive, I am not worried. She’s got the grit and strength to go where she needs to go, and we’ll help her get there, and be amazed as we watch.
