grow as we go

Today at church, the woman who spoke shared vulnerably and honestly about how her journey of faith has been turbulent. She vacillates knowing how important Jesus - as a person or a concept - is in her life. I identified deeply with so much of what she said. At the end of her teaching, she shared this song that I’ve known for years. But she asked us to hear it as if from Jesus (yes, ignore the cheesiness, she said!). And I think it’s just beautiful.

Grow As We Go,” by Ben Platt

You say there's so much you don't knowYou need to go and find yourselfYou say you'd rather be alone'Cause you think you won't find it tied to someone else
Ooh, who said it's trueThat the growing only happens on your own? They don't know me and you
I don't think you have to leaveIf to change is what you needYou can change right next to meWhen you're high, I'll take the lowsYou can ebb and I can flowAnd we'll take it slowAnd grow as we goGrow as we go
You won't be the only oneI am unfinished, I've got so much left to learnI don't know how this river runsBut I'd like the company through every twist and turn
Ooh, who said it's trueThat the growing only happens on your own? They don't know me and you
You don't ever have to leaveIf to change is what you needYou can change right next to meWhen you're high, I'll take the lowsYou can ebb and I can flowAnd we'll take it slowAnd grow as we goGrow as we goGrow as we goGrow as we go
I don't know who we'll becomeI can't promise it's not written in the starsBut I believe that when it's doneWe're gonna see that it was betterThat we grew up together
Tell me you don't wanna leave'Cause if change is what you needYou can change right next to meWhen you're high, I'll take the lowsYou can ebb and I can flowWe'll take it slowAnd grow as we goGrow as we go
