magical heartbreak

I had no idea 

having children would be so

simultaneously magical 

and devastating 

the wonderful feeling 

watching them 

smile 

laugh 

sleep 

and the heartbreak 

of already missing

their tininess 

knowing they’ll never be

this small again 

oh time, oh time 

the greatest giver 

and taker 

I will try to choose grateful 

for even that which is gone
