with children

I’m grateful to spend my days with children.

They remind me of the joy found in the simplest things.

Johnnie toddles to the refrigerator to get an “a-a-a” apple when it’s snack time, asks to feed the dog all morning, and shrieks with excitement when it’s time to load clothes into the washing machine.

Zinni loves getting to slice fruit to go with our lunches, often asks to do floor puzzles together, and shouts “Yes!” when I say she can color in the images in her math book.

Lucy could watch the movements of her mice for hours, loves every aspect of grocery shopping together (especially when the list is long), and looks forward all day to the time we spend just-the-two-of-us before bed.

While yes, the responsibility and management of it all is exhausting, spending my days with children is also incredibly grounding. I truly get to see, enjoy, and embrace the little things I’m sure I would have missed a thousand times.
