Happy Mother’s Day, Mom. 

Today I want to recognize how becoming a step-grandparent is not for the faint of heart. It is joining a story that has already begun. It is walking the tightrope of not overstepping and yet showing unconditional love, of waiting sometimes years for reciprocation, and of continuing that balance as a new baby arrives that’s officially “yours” but still maintaining that equal love of all three. 

Mom, you have worked so hard to love my eclectic little family, and it brings me to tears. It’s only the most recent of the ways you have loved me so sacrificially my entire life. 

The more years I am a mother, the more grateful and in awe I become of you. I love you.
