teachings of star wars

May the 4th be with you.

This Star Wars day, I got the fam all dressed up in our gear and we made our appearance at the event our local library hosts. Then we went for some ice cream.

Sitting at the table at Dairy Queen, I thought about how much Star Wars has meant to me, silly as it sounds. And I thought about how it is a story, like many stories, with lessons that are true even when the people and places are not.

So I shared with my little crew what I think two important teachings from Star Wars are.

First, balance. The balance of light and dark. The mindset that for every heartache there is also joy, for every anger there is peace, and for every evil there is good. I find hope in that.

And second, connection. That everything is connected. Through the Force, or maybe through some cosmic stardust or gravity or who knows what, I do think we are all connected. Not necessarily in a way that allows me to move things with my mind, though I can’t say I haven’t tried. ;)

I’m grateful for Star Wars. Silly as it sounds. And I’m grateful for the lessons that have found their way deep into my being.
