donut date

I love seeing Johnnie's personality developing, and one of the most special things to see is the parts of him that I know he gets from me. First off - a love of snacks!

This weekend, Nate was working on a project and the girls were playing with the neighbors when I needed to make a quick Hobby Lobby run, so I took Johnnie with me. As soon as we parked in the parking lot, he started asking me, "Mama, mmm! Mmm! Mmm!" which is how he says, "food" (I have no idea why!). Costco and Trader Joe's both have samples, plus sometimes we'll get free bread at Great Harvest, so now he has the idea that wherever we go with involve finding some kind of snack or treat. Which, of course, is exactly how my brain works too.

So after Hobby Lobby, we took a little detour into the Albertson's next door, got a donut for a buck, and took it to the car. We popped open the back of the van and sat together, just eating our donut and watching the people and cars go by, talking about how yummy it was.

It was a simple moment, but one I will treasure, and one I think foretells of years and years of finding snacks together.

Love you, buddy boy.
