for the downs babies

Like many people, I've been so affected by the post made by a prominent influencer that he and his wife terminated their pregnancy after discovering a Down's Syndrome diagnosis.

He claimed that their child would not have had a quality life.

He claimed they did not want their child to suffer.

I am so saddened by the misinformation this couple was given.

Studies have shown that people with Down’s Syndrome are THE happiest people on the planet.

I can only imagine how scary a Down's Syndrome diagnosis must be for a parent. But I hope instead of misinformation, we can spread the truth.

The truth that I know: Remi, like his Down's Syndrome community, both experiences and brings joy like no one else I know. All our worlds are brighter and better because of him.

I grieve for what this scared couple has missed out on. I hope as a culture we learn that life is not to be chosen based on its meeting our preconceived expectations. All Down's Syndrome lives are worth living.

Finally, to the pro-life community, I urge us to speak out in both truth and compassion. Villainizing this couple is not the way of love.

You are joy and love and life, Remi!

The world is so lucky to have you in it. And the world is so lucky that your parents did not back down from this joy for fear of hardship or inconvenience. And I am so lucky to know you.
