hear and act

This blog post by my friend Lauren Reavely really made me stop and think. I've been doing much pondering and praying about missions work and what God's plan for my life is. Reading this post made things seem even clearer.

Let Me Hear Their Cries

Missions work, whether in a foreign country or within your own family, should be the ultimate goal of all of our lives. No matter what our current occupation is, our calling is to minister and share the news of Jesus with as many people possible. Being a missionary does not mean that you are called to go abroad, smuggle Bibles, live in a mud hut, etc. Whether you are a plumber, mother, musician, politician, graphic designer, author, or teacher, you are called to be a missionary. You may not be called to leave the occupation you have, but you are called to make the main focus of that position the salvation of as many souls as you can.

Here are a few quotes that inspired me in regards to mission work.

"If God calls you to be a missionary, don't stoop to be a king." ~ Jordan Groom

"I have but one candle of life to burn, and I would rather burn it out in a land filled with darkness than in a land flooded with light." ~ John Keith Falconer

"The gospel is only good news if it gets there in time." ~ Carl F. H. Henry

"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." ~ Jim Elliot

"If ten men are carrying a log - nine of them on the little end and one at the heavy end - and you want to help, which end will you lift on?" ~ William Borden, referring to the lack of missionaries.

"Sympathy is no substitute for action." ~David Livingstone

"The Great Commission is not an option to be considered; it is a command to be obeyed." ~ Hudson Taylor

"Go, send, or disobey." ~ John Piper

And, in regards to the title of this blog: "God uses men who are weak and feeble enough to lean on Him." ~ Hudson Taylor

  1. Mom and I were just talking about this today... I can only pray that God would show me how to be a missionary TODAY.
