a letter
The months have passed,
Both short and slow,
Since we last saw your face.
We’ve heard it said,
So many times,
“He’s in a better place.”
It’s true, I know,
And joy is there,
To know you’re finally home.
But deep inside,
We still will cry,
Because we miss you so.
We’ve learned so much,
We’ve felt so much,
We never wanted to.
But we hold fast,
To sovereign plans,
That we believe are true.
If you knew,
The hole you’ve left,
The void your absence makes.
For close loved ones,
And simple friends,
It’d take your breath away.
So full a life,
While yet so short,
You changed eternity.
Your nineteen years,
Have changed all mine,
So I thank you, Jimmy.
I wrote this today before I remembered that today marks six months. I never write poetry, but the words just flowed out for this one. It's not perfect, but it reflects my heart. Jimmy, I am so glad that I hurt so much. I praise God that He allowed me to know you, even though the pain has been so much longer than the week at camp. It really is a severe mercy, isn't it?
That is beautiful, Shelby. Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm praying for you. =)
