woke up to the sun

it's been raining for so long now
each pounding drop
a sobering reality that never lets me rest
the downpour keeps me moving,
and praying
and crying
and comforting those who mourn

but today
I woke up to the sun
shining through the door
dancing on the floor
and I
remember you are hope
you have not let us go
oh joy again for you are faithful
as the morning light

my most common prayer is please,
oh father, please,
you cannot leave us here
the girl objectified and sold
the boy who scarring secrets hold
humanity is dark as ever

but today
I woke up to the sun
shining through the door
dancing on the floor
and I
remember you are hope
you have not let us go
oh joy again for you are faithful
as the morning light

the cycle of the earth is to live and die and live again
oh resurrection come

but today
I woke up to the sun
shining through the door
dancing on the floor
so please
teach me to hope again
and what joy really is
and how you make the dead come back to life

backstory: after weeks, months really, of so much sadness, pain, hurt, and unfixable problems in my life and the lives of people around me, today was a breath of hope. it began by simply being woken up by rays of sunshine peeking through the blinds over the door to my room. it's been raining for weeks, and that sun just made me jump out of bed full of hope and joy. and I realized that those have become infrequent feelings for many of us. but today, God reminded me again that after night is day, after fall is spring, and after all of this he will make all things new.

ps - this song does have a melody, but I don't have any way of sharing it at the moment!
