inward journey
Suddenly I realize
On every voyage
In every storm
I’ve jumped ship
Into the lifeboats
Before I even tried
To steer my boat
On every voyage
In every storm
I’ve jumped ship
Into the lifeboats
Before I even tried
To steer my boat
Suddenly I realize
At every twilight
Inside my dark cave
I’ve run to the cave mouth
And called out
Before I even sat
Alone with me
At every twilight
Inside my dark cave
I’ve run to the cave mouth
And called out
Before I even sat
Alone with me
But maybe
If I’m willing
To sail alone
I’ll discover
My ship
Is my home
If I’m willing
To sail alone
I’ll discover
My ship
Is my home
And maybe
If I’m brave enough
To sit in the dark
I’ll find
In the cave
My heart
If I’m brave enough
To sit in the dark
I’ll find
In the cave
My heart
An update on my summer goals: per the advice of a perceptive friend, I decided not to try to blast through the entire Bible this summer looking for all the references that shape our perspective of women. Instead, I think this sacred summer needs to be spent diving more into my own soul and the love that Jesus wants to pour into me. I have a lot of goals and dreams for my life, and unending number of ways I want to be used. But none of that will come from the right place if I have yet learned to receive the love of God. The above poem came out of the realizations that I often turned to people or resources in my struggles without the ability to turn in a see what was truly happening in my soul and letting God come and meet me there.
What about you? Can you sit alone with yourself? Can you dive in deep, look for new things, and believe that the love of God fills every space within your soul?
