we're home
I love spending time with Remi and Milo - 5 and 3 years old - every week. They are two of the biggest gifts in my life.
Remi has Down's Syndrome, and his little quirkiness and oh-so-sunshiney personality sometimes feels too good to be true. His vocabulary is growing rapidly right now, and it's a blast. Sometimes it's hard to know what's going through his mind, and sometimes he uses words that don't really make sense in the context. But this is my favorite right now.
Whenever we go somewhere that Remi is excited to be - whether it's my house, a brand new park, the library, or his house - he shouts happily, "We're home!"
Something strikes me deeply about those little moments of "We're home!" I know that eventually he'll learn what "home" means to the rest of us - usually associated with the place that we lay down our head to sleep every day, or where our family is.
But for now, "home" for Remi could be anywhere and everywhere. Anywhere that he is happy to be, which when you're Remi, is a lot of places.
It makes me want to live life like that a little more. I want to be present like that a little more. I want to be happy where I am more, to say "I'm home" wherever I am full, excited, content, and loved.
