“another gospel”: a response
To those writing, preaching, and teaching that deconstruction is people simply rejecting the true Christian gospel:
You’re assuming your doctrine is the true Christian gospel. You’re saying that I’m rejecting all orthodox Christian history. That’s a huge claim that assumes no alternative forms of Christianity for 2000 years.
But even if I am rejecting that, you’re assuming that my rejection is because “I don’t like traditional Christianity” or the “true gospel.”
What if my deconstruction is not because I love “progressive” Christianity? What if it’s not because I “want nothing to do with the church?”
What if it’s actually out of a deeply sincere, engaged, intellectual and spiritual journey of seeking truth?
Your search for truth brought you to Christianity as it has been known by the majority for most of Christian history. Good for you, really.
But could it be possible that I am also an intelligent, honest individual who sought truth and sought Jesus just as earnestly, but felt like the answers pointed away from traditional Christianity? The only way you can discredit me is by saying my conclusions are wrong. But without understanding the process and pieces of information that led me to my conclusions, you cannot know for a fact that you are right and I am wrong.
Are you in line with orthodoxy and I am not? Sure.
Does that make you in line with truth and me not? I don’t think we can know that for sure.
Yes, I’m no longer aligned with traditional majority Christian beliefs. But I have never for a moment stopped seeking honest truth and the real Jesus. You may disagree with me, but you cannot simply write me off.
