I take pictures 

so many pictures 

trying to capture the moment 

but even the best picture

doesn’t capture what I really want 

the feel of your fuzzy head against my lips

your hand wrapped on my finger

the weight of your 2-month-old body in my arms

the sound of your nasal breathing 

your gummy babble

your tiny sneezes and hiccups 

the smell of your belly at bathtime 

the way you move your hands spontaneously 

the way your hands wiggle when they stretch out of the swaddle 

the way you smile when you look at me

a thousand pictures won’t freeze this moment 

but still I try
