inauguration

We watched the inauguration instead of doing school on Monday, but I think they learned just as much - or more.

We talked about how grateful we should be for the peaceful transfer of power, even from one political party to another. I am grateful.

We answered questions: What is the freedom of press? What are hostages? What is illegal immigration? Why is everyone clapping? Why aren't those people clapping? Why is that person crying?

We watched memorable moments - Carrie Underwood's a cappella "America the Beautiful," the reenactment of Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech.

We talked about the importance of oaths, of promises, of words.

And we talked about the need for us all to love each other and see the best in each other, even when we disagree.

This country is far from perfect, of course it is - it always has been. But I'm proud to be part of the process, the project.
